What Are the Recommended Settings for My File Types?

ConceptShare recommends the following settings and options for different file types that you upload. These settings help ensure that the files are optimized for asset viewing and asset versioning.

Images

These are the recommended settings and options for image–based assets. These settings help reduce the risk of processing errors and provide an ideal end–user experience.

These recommendations are not ConceptShare limitations. Take note, however, that you might experience conversion or display issues if you do not follow these recommendations. For example, each browser or version has a maximum supported size. Beyond this size, the image might not display in its entirety and the browser might not provide any indication that there are missing visuals. As of Spring 2018, the average browser limitation is 8196 x 8196 pixels.

The image should:

  • Be less than 4000-px wide by 4000-px high.
  • Be in the sRGB color space.
  • Be at 72 DPI.
  • Be stripped of its metadata (for example, EXIF tags) to reduce the file size.
  • Not use any specific CC color profiles that are embedded.

Documents

ConceptShare's internal document format is PDF. The system will convert any non–PDF document to PDF. There are some features of PDF that are not fully supported. The following lists some features and related suggestions for processing PDF files:

Feature Description
Embedded Images
  • ConceptShare's document engine renders embedded images with different color spaces other than sRGB. For example, CMYK. However, the system converts those color spaces to sRGB upon display. This conversion process has an inherent color shifting, so we recommend ensuring that your embedded images are in sRGB when creating your PDF.
  • To improve performance, ensure that you use embedded images with 110 DPI or less. Whenever possible, try to use JPEG encoding for color images/photos in RGB color space.
  • Make sure that the image size is correct for the given application. For a web review, you do not need to have a 5000 x 5000 px image embedded in a PDF scaled to a much smaller size. Resize the images accordingly before embedding them to the PDF.
Font Features
  • All required fonts should be embedded into the PDF. If not, the system will use fallback fonts, which can cause display discrepancies.
Document Page Size
  • Since ConceptShare renders documents at 110 DPI, we do not recommend using page sizes larger than 36 inches in either width or height. Doing so results in a rendered page of not more than the 4000 x 4000 px to conform to image recommendations.
Document Complexity Image Reuse
  • If an image is reused multiple times throughout a document, ConceptShare recommends referencing the same image within the PDF instead of embedding the image multiple times. Typically, this is automatically handled by most software.
Layers, Transparencies, and Blends
  • When possible, select the option to flatten the document with its transparency and blends minimized. Layers and transparencies consume large amounts of the browser's resources and significantly slow down performance, which contribute to poor reviewer experience.
Office Documents Microsoft Excel
  • ConceptShare will preserve the page setup and layout settings of Excel documents. You can use Excel features such as print preview, shrink to fit single page, and print area to help determine how ConceptShare will convert your document to PDF.
  • For maximum control, convert the Excel document to PDF yourself and directly upload the file.
Microsoft PowerPoint
  • ConceptShare will convert PowerPoint documents to PDF.
  • ConceptShare now supports speaker notes.
  • Certain PowerPoint features may not be supported, such as animations and embedded control (for videos and animations for Adobe Flash player).
Unsupported Document Features ConceptShare's document engine currently does not support interactive PDF features such as:
  • 3D
  • PDF: annotations
  • PDF: any embedded interactive content
  • PDF: forms (XFA or AcroForms)
  • Embedded Content (.FLV file format)
  • JavaScript

Video

ConceptShare transcodes each ingested video file into three proxy files: low rendition, medium rendition, and high rendition. After transcoding, ConceptShare tests the user connection and surface rendition file that is most applicable to the available bandwidth.
Note: If the ingested file does not meet the requirements for a high-rendition proxy, ConceptShare will only transcode low-rendition and medium-rendition proxies. If the ingested file does not meet the requirements for a medium rendition proxy, ConceptShare will only transcode a low-rendition proxy.
To bypass the primary transcoder within ConceptShare and save processing time, you can use a video format that matches ConceptShare's proxy format. The video and audio streams will then be copied directly to the proxy server instead of re–transcoding the video. For more information, see Default (Medium).

Determining Which Sections Will Be Available

Depending on the size of the input video, a number of renditions or proxies can be created. The following chart will help determine what renditions are available based on the input dimensions. In some cases, the video can be proportionally transcoded and scaled. You can upload video files to ConceptShare at any frame rate, but ConceptShare will render any file exceeding 30 fps at 30 fps.

Input Video Size Low Rendition Medium Rendition High Rendition
Width >1920 or Height >1080 Yes (Scaled) Yes (Scaled) Yes (Scaled)
Width 1280–1920 or Height 720–1080 Yes (Scaled) Yes (Scaled) Yes
Width 640–1280 or Height 360–720 Yes (Scaled) Yes No
Width <640 and Height <360 No Yes (Low rendition becomes the default option) No

ConceptShare supports/recommends the following proxy settings:

Video Playback

You can upload video files at any frame rate, but ConceptShare will render any file exceeding 30 fps at 30 fps.

Feature Description
Safe Zones ConceptShare renders safe zones at 90% for action areas and 80% for title areas. In addition, center–cut safe areas at 14:9 and 4:3 are 70% wide and 65% wide, respectively, at 90% height.
Timecodes ConceptShare does not currently support Drop–Frame Timecodes. All video timecodes are rendered in Non-Drop–Frame Timecodes.

ConceptShare currently supports Timecode Offset. When uploading a section of video that is a subset of a larger master video, ConceptShare will display the file timecode offset as such, assuming the Timecode Offset metadata is properly stored in the video. For example, the frames of a video file consisting of 00:30:00 to 01:00:00.

Closed Captioning/Subtitle Support ConceptShare does not currently support Closed Captioning or subtitles. However, it is technically possible to integrate Closed Caption support. This development is not currently part of the ConceptShare roadmap, and would be driven by customer/partner demand.
Adaptive Steaming ConceptShare does not currently support adaptive streaming. However, ConceptShare is currently evaluating adaptive streaming technologies. This development is not currently part of the near–term ConceptShare roadmap, and would be driven by customer/partner demand.

HTML5

In the *.ZIP file of your animation, make sure there is only one HTML within the published animation folder per file.
Specification Description
Duration

(in seconds)

  • Capture Duration is bound to a value between 1 and 300.
  • If not specified, capture duration is set to 15 seconds.
Width

(in pixels)

  • If specified, width is bound to a value between 1 and 10000.
  • If not specified, auto–detection is used.
Height

(in pixels)

  • If specified, height is bound to a value between 1 and 10000.
  • If not specified, auto–detection is used.
Note: For information, see Preparing Animated HTML5 Files for Upload.

Known Limitations

  • Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is not currently supported and, therefore, will not render if embedded in HTML5 ZIP files.
  • Use of web fonts is not supported when uploading HTML5 ZIP files. Instead, include the font files in the ZIP file and reference the local fonts.
Note: The proxy that is used is the same for video assets: an MP4 container with H264/AAC encoding.

Web Capture

ConceptShare will save the web page that you want to upload as a single screen capture, which is important to note when there are video and animation elements on the page.
  • Make sure that the web link is for a publicly accessible website.
  • The upload supports basic authentication.
  • Do not include direct links to files. For instance, a link to a ZIP file will not be uploaded.
